ABOUT

We are a club founded by students at McMaster University.

Our mission is to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness and confidence in your body shape and size.

As proud supporters of Danielle's Place, an eating disorder support and resource centre, we also strive to raise awareness about these deadly illnesses and assist anyone struggling with body image issues.

Check us out on Facebook and follow us on Instagram for updates on our upcoming events throughout the school year. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, or would like to get involved, please feel free to email us at macalliancebodypeace@gmail.com!

Please note — since the 2020/2021 school year is online, we will be hosting virtual events. Stay tuned!

I AM BOLD

(BOdy Love & Diversity)

BODY PEACE TREATY

I believe I am amazing both inside and out.

I believe that beauty comes in infinite forms.

I believe that I deserve to be loved unconditionally and accepted for everything that makes me who I am.

I believe that who I am is a reflection of what is inside me, not in the mirror.

I will love and appreciate my body for all that it does for me as it is my most sacred gift.

I will not let anyone put me down, nor will I accept any negativity towards my body.

I will appreciate what makes my body unique and celebrate it.

I will express my inner self however I like and I will not be embarrassed.

I will appreciate that my body will change just like my mind does over time.

I will commit to keeping my body, mind, and spirit healthy and happy.

I will turn my negative judgements of others into positive admiration.

I will accept the diverse expressions of others and will not think that they mean any less.

I am brilliant. I am brave. I am breathtaking.

I am BOLD.

BODY PEACE TREATY
WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

The McMaster Alliance for Body Peace (MAC ABP) was born out of a need students saw to address a major issue in modern society: body image. Society’s obsession with physical appearance and idealistic bodies is incessantly conveyed through magazines, television, and film, and is having an undeniable impact on people regardless of gender or age. Furthermore, the increasing prevalence of eating disorders in both males and females exemplifies the idea that body image can go beyond the issue of self-esteem, and has the ability to severely affect one’s health to the point of mortality.

Our goal is to passionately and persistently encourage physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. We will educate the McMaster student body about wellness and the realities of society’s ideals of beauty. We will empowerMcMaster students to adopt healthy lifestyle goals, and make changes in their own lives and the lives of their fellow students. Ultimately, MAC ABP will enhance McMaster as a whole by creating a strong and supportive community.

Join us — we'd love to see you at our events, and look forward to hearing how we can work together toward a more body-positive world starting right here at McMaster.

RESOURCES

We are constantly surrounded by different messages from a variety of sources that impact the way we feel about our bodies. For some people, poor body image can contribute to the development of a serious health problem: an eating disorder.

Eating disorders are complex, multi-faceted illnesses that can affect anyone regardless of age or gender. While eating disorders are characterized by unhealthy behaviors around food, it is important to note that they are not exclusively about food or the body. There are often other factors causing the individual to focus on controlling or obsessing about their food and weight. For instance, it may provide a way to cope with difficult problems or regain a sense of control. Eating disorders are complicated, and can affect a person’s sense of identity, worth, and self-esteem.

If you have any questions or concerns, or have suggestions for additional resources to list here, please feel free to contact us.
